I often get phone calls from parents that go something like this, "We made a big mistake on our car! We (drilled, cut, painted, glued, etc.) something wrong. How do we fix it?" Depending on the magnitude of the mistake, sometimes these problems can be fixed.
But oftentimes the best solution is to start fresh with a new kit. If the car is not too intricate the re-building process goes rather quickly (you've already done it once), and the end result is usually much better than a patch job.
Parents don't often appreciate this advice. We live in a society that is rather impatient, and where most anything can be 'fixed'. So starting over is not a top choice for most people.
But in the area of life, starting over is the only choice. The Bible tells us that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"1 It also says, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."2
This may seem mysterious, but restated in (hopefully) simpler terms: if we want to be right with God we must put aside our old life of self-reliance and sin, and accept the free gift of a new life from God himself. This new life is available to us because of the work of Christ Jesus - his sacrificial death on the cross, and his resurrection.
If you want to put aside your existing life and take on the new life that comes from God, I encourage you to pray to God by:
Acknowledging that you have sinned, and that you need a new life - 1 John 1:8-9
Believing that Jesus Christ died in your place and rose again to be your Savior, thus providing you with forgiveness of sins - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Invite Jesus to give you a new life, with Him as your king and lord.
Why not do that right now? You can use the following prayer:
Dear Lord, I want to know you personally. I am willing, with your help, to turn from my sins. Thank you for sending Jesus who died in my place and rose again to be my Savior. Come into my life and lead me." Amen
If you have prayed this prayer, then I would certainly like to rejoice with you. You can contact me at:
